We pride ourselves on our kindness, respect, understanding and a non-judgmental approach to all of our patients.  Louisiana is one of several states that has legalized the use of medical marijuana for qualifying patients, but in order to legally purchase and consume medical marijuana in Louisiana, you must first obtain proper documentation, i.e. a medical marijuana recommendation. This can only be granted by a licensed and permitted marijuana doctor in Louisiana, following an evaluation.

PREPARING FOR MEDICAL MARIJUANA EVALUATION IN LOUISIANA

Before you arrive for your medical marijuana evaluation in Louisiana, be sure to first obtain copies of your medical records that has the Qualifying medical condition listed, as these will be necessary to conduct the evaluation.

You can ask your primary physician (or past physicians) for these records

  • Your physician must legally provide you with access to your medical records.
  • You must also bring proof of identity (a government-issued ID) and proof of residency in Louisiana.

Insurance won’t cover medical marijuana evaluation in Baton Rouge or other parts of Louisiana because marijuana is still considered a Schedule I substance under federal law, so be prepared to pay for your appointment.  At Transformative Health Center, we offer military and educator discounts, and we apply discounts to follow-up appointments to ease the burden on patients in need of ongoing medical marijuana treatment.

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM YOUR MEDICAL MARIJUANA EVALUATION

During your evaluation, our licensed and permitted physicians will review past medical records and perform a diagnosis.  If you are determined to have a qualifying health condition, you will receive a same-day recommendation, which will be faxed to one of nine licensed pharmacies in the state of Louisiana, typically the nearest one.  The pharmacy will contact you when your medical marijuana order is ready for pick-up.

While there are still many notable exclusions from the list of qualifying conditions approved for medical marijuana use, many patients can now seek this form of treatment.  You just need to follow the steps above to determine if you qualify so you can receive a recommendation. Annual recertification is necessary, so be sure to schedule a renewal appointment with your medical marijuana doctor before your recommendation expires.
